Wireless operators are increasingly viewing their core networks and access networks as closely related but independent strategic assets. The core network contains content, applications and subscriber information that can potentially be used to deliver innovative services across any access network, including the public Internet.
Airvana’s Universal Access Gateway (UAG) enables operators to provide services anywhere there is Internet connectivity. The UAG is a fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) gateway that dramatically increases revenue opportunities while decreasing infrastructure costs. The UAG resides between the operator’s core network and the Internet, typically offering services to subscribers with Wi-Fi-enabled cell phones or femtocell access points.
