UMTS Femtocell
Product Overview
HubBub UMTS delivers 7.2 Mbps HSDPA and 1.4 Mbps HSUPA in addition to 4 voice calls. It offers best-in-class radio receiver sensitivity, both for femtocell operation and for monitoring the radio environment.
HubBub UMTS is able to provide best-in-class performance because Airvana owns the end-to-end design of its femtocells – from baseband to all 3G and femtocell-specific software. All Airvana software runs on high-volume off-the-shelf chipsets from well-established semiconductor suppliers, enabling Airvana to not only offer competitive prices but also unmatched supply-chain stability.
HubBub UMTS connects to the core network using a 3GPP and Femto Forum approved architecture. It connects to a Home Node B Gateway (HNB-GW) using an Iu-based interface and to the Home Node B Management System (HMS) using TR-069. In the near future, HubBub UMTS will support 3GPP R8 Iuh and Broadband Forum’s TR-196 standard
Airvana is a member of Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) Femtocell Ecosystem. The HubBub UMTS femtocell has been certified to work with NSN’s femtocell gateway. NSN is one of the world’s leading mobile infrastructure vendors. HubBub UMTS is also available as a module to residential gateway manufacturers, and is currently included in products provided by Thomson and Pirelli.
High-Capacity HubBub for Enterprises and Public Spaces
The rapid rise in use of mobile devices in enterprises and public spaces is providing an enormous opportunity for mobile operators to generate new revenue growth. Uninhibited indoor/outdoor coverage, high capacity and Quality of Service (QoS) are extremely important for operators to offer services in enterprises and public spaces. Existing approaches to enhance coverage and capacity are capital-intensive and often inadequate. The Airvana HubBub UMTS High Capacity Femtocell is a purpose-built solution to enable mobile network operators to improve 3G indoor coverage and capacity in these environments.
The HubBub High-Capacity femtocell provides a range of features that make it ideal for use in enterprises and public spaces. Each device supports 16 simultaneous users, 21.6 Mbps download speeds and 5.7 Mbps upload speed with a coverage range of up to 600 meters—a breakthrough at nearly three times that of residential femtocell technologies. Each device can additionally support up to 40 simultaneous users of low-bandwidth data applications such as push e-mail. This combination is well suited to offices and public spaces in which many smartphone users will be checking email or updating social networking sites, while others will be conducting voice calls or more intensive data sessions. Like HubBub residential femtocells, the HubBub High-Capacity femtocell can use a standard high-speed Internet connection for backhaul and is compatible with 3GPP Iuh femtocell standards. It is truly plug-and-play, designed for installation by non-specialized IT staff, significantly lowering the cost of deployment for both operator and end-customer.
In addition to offering uninterrupted coverage and capacity, an operator deploying Airvana’s HubBub High Capacity Femtocell can increase ARPU through cross-selling and bundling high value services, retain large business accounts and gain access to newer markets.
