Airvana to showcase femtocell-based applications at Femtocells World Summit
Will demonstrate presence capabilities of the femtocell with the ‘Party Alert’ application and lead discussion on implementation of femtocell based services
London - Femtocells World Summit, June 23, 2009
Airvana, Inc. (Nasdaq: AIRV), the company transforming the mobile experience, will be demonstrating how the femtocell can offer a new generation of mobile services to the consumer at the Femtocells World Summit in London, 23-25 June. Airvana will be demonstrating its ‘party alert’ application which will showcase the unique presence capabilities of the femtocell. Sanjeev Verma, vice president of femtocell business and co founder of Airvana will also lead a discussion about the business case for these new services in his presentation entitled ‘Femtonomics 2.0: Making the Case for Services’. The CTO of the company, Vedat Eyuboglu, will also be participating in the discussion panel “Is There an Urgent Need for LTE Femtocells or are 2G/3G Femtocells Enough?”
“The femtocell is already acknowledged to offer mobile subscribers improved voice coverage and dramatic improvements in mobile broadband data performance,” explained Sanjeev Verma. “With the development of femtocell-based applications, operators will also be able to position the femtocell as a platform for applications that will enhance communications and entertainment in the home.”
Airvana will be showcasing the capabilities of its HubBub femtocell at this year’s Femtocells World Summit with the demonstration of an application dubbed the ‘party alert’, as part of the Applications Live Showcase event. Airvana has developed a number of simple applications that take advantage of the presence capabilities of the femtocell, which become active as soon as a mobile phone is within range. These applications are able to run on different mobile platforms including but not limited to the iPhone, Google’s Android Phone and the HTC Touch Diamond. The applications provide an example of the types of services that the operator and developer communities will have the opportunity to create for the femtocell platform.
Verma explained: “We have developed an application called the ‘party alert’ which is activated when the femtocell detects mobile phones within the home environment, notifying external subscribers via an SMS, email or even a message on Facebook. Applications like this are made possible by the femtocell’s location intelligence. This type of feature presents the developer community with the opportunity to design a range of applications from home security to social networking and entertainment services.”
Airvana will conduct a demonstration of its ‘party alert’ application at the Live Applications Showcase event during the Femtocells World Summit on Tuesday June 23rd. A press preview is being held on the same day to give the media the opportunity to sample the demonstration and discuss how femtocell-based applications will help to drive mass market adoption of femtocells.
Sanjeev Verma’s presentation ‘Femtonomics 2.0: Making the Case for Services’ will take place at 14:45 on Tuesday 23rd June. It will explore how enhanced services strengthen the femtocell business case, and what must be done to create a robust applications ecosystem. The panel discussion in which Vedat Eyuboglu will participate, “Is There an Urgent Need for LTE Femtocells or are 2G/3G Femtocells Enough?” takes place on Tuesday 23rd June at 16:45. Doug Knisely, vice president of technology and responsible for standards at Airvana, will also participate in the discussion panel, “Standards Updates - 3GPP, 3GPP2, Broadband Forum, WiMAX Forum”, which takes place on Wednesday 24th June at 16:40.
Femtocells World Summit is organised by Avren Events, and will bring together operators, analysts, manufacturers and application developer from around the globe to debate and review femtocell developments, as well as see the largest femtocell focused exhibition to date.
