Airvana Licenses Mobile IP Technology from Secgo Software
Chelmsford, MA, August 4, 2006
Secgo Software Oy,a leading developer of software mobility solutions based in Espoo, Finland, and Airvana, Inc., an innovative provider of mobile broadband infrastructure based on third-generation (3G) wireless packet data, have entered into an OEM agreement for Airvana to license Secgo’s Mobile IP software technology in its access gateway product line. Using Secgo’s Mobile IP Toolkit, Airvana will integrate Secgo’s Mobile IP technology into its existing Universal Access Gateway (UAG) for fixed-mobile convergence (FMC), that the company announced in April.
“There are a variety of technologies available for implementing seamless roaming in a fixed-mobile convergence environment, but support for industry standards, like Mobile IP, is critical for our carrier customers,” commented Sanjeev Verma, vice president of marketing and business development, Airvana. “The partnership with Secgo allows Airvana to leverage best-in-class Mobile IP technology to satisfy carrier demands for interoperability, manageability and affordability better than any of the other alternatives.”
The Airvana UAG allows carriers to maintain a branded presence and continue offering services through any IP-based network, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and WiMAX. Based in part on the Secgo’s Mobile IP technology, the UAG provides full mobility with seamless handoffs, carrier-class quality of service and security, and centralized subscriber/connection/resource management.
Secgo’s Mobile IP is a software-based Internet mobility management solution that enables seamless and secure mobility between different local area and wide area networks. Secgo Mobile IP technology ensures utilization of the best possible network available, taking into account both data rate and connection cost. Roaming from one network to another is automatic and transparent, requiring no intervention from the user and causing no interruptions in the traffic flow. The fast hand-off allows users to enjoy a constant high-quality experience when changing connections from Wi-Fi to Ethernet to WiMAX to 3G. The Secgo Mobile IP Toolkit includes full source code, developer documentation for engineers, and user documentation for both client and server products.
“We are proud to be selected by Airvana, the recognized technology leader in mobile broadband infrastructure,” commented Matti Mujunen, CEO of Secgo Software. “As an innovative and demanding partner, Airvana helps us further strengthen our technology position as a core supplier of Mobile IP and Mobile VPN technology platforms and further entrenches Secgo as the forerunner in the rapidly-emerging mobility marketplace.”
